About Us

My name is Ann Cathcart. If you’re a parent searching for solutions and support for your child with learning disabilities, then you may understand why I started The Learning Camp. What began as a search for summer camps for my son ended with a new purpose for my life.

Learning Camp Founder, Ann Cathcart & Tom MachtNearly fifteen years ago I was searching for summer camps and programs to help my son Tucker who had recently been diagnosed with ADD and dyslexia. I was sure there would be summer camps for kids with ADD, ADHD, dyslexia and other learning disabilities. I knew he needed tutoring over the summer or he would slip back further in school. I also knew he needed a summer experience that would boost his self-confidence. When I found nothing for Tucker I became determined to create what would become The Learning Camp.

Here's the secret formula that helps kids succeed at The Learning Camp:

  • Campers are surrounded by their peers
  • Daily academics avoid back-sliding
  • Fun, exciting camp adventures build self-confidence and self-esteem
  • Camper to trained adult ratio of 3:1
  • All adult counselors
  • Medication administration and monitoring
  • The inspiring natural beauty of the Rocky Mountains in the Vail Valley of Colorado
Camp sessions close with a sentimental ceremony at the fire circle.

I couldn’t have built this camp, or this program, without the mutual dedication and talents of my husband, and co-camp director, Tom Macht. Tom was a learning specialist at Children’s Hospital in Denver, CO when we first met. When he moved to Vail he continued his career as a special education teacher and school counselor with Eagle County School District. He designs the academic program by working with each camper’s parent to determine the academic needs of every child in our care. Tom is also certified with the Red Cross as a First Responder and the State of Colorado for medication administration.

Today, there are many summer camps for kids with learning disabilities such as ADD, ADHD and dyslexia. Many of these summer camps have well designed academics led by special education counselors. Other summer camps do not. You need to take the time to discover what you want for your child. In the meantime, I’m glad you’ve discovered The Learning Camp, learned a little about what makes us so unique and why so many parents like you are glad they discovered us too.

The mission of The Learning Camp, a summer camp for children with ADD, ADHD, dyslexia and other learning disabilities, is to helping kids with learning disabilities build self-esteem, independence and academic success. Unlike the regular school setting, campers practice fundamentals in small, intimate groups gathered outside under trees or on the shores of Spring Creek. Classes are organized according to age and the academic needs of the camper. Children are not given after-class assignments and so there is no homework or additional testing. Instead, we focus on working very intensely on the basics a few hours each day, and then enjoy all the activities of any given day at summer camp. We incorporate many different types of instructional strategies. There are now many ADD summer camps, ADHD summer camps, LD summer camps, dyslexia summer camps and learning disabled summer camp in the world serving the LD, ADHD and ADD child, but none like our camp! Specialty summer camps for kids such as add camps, adhd camps, dyslexia summer camps, ad/hd camps, ld camps, and other camps for kids with learning disabilities are an excellent way to help bridge the summer and build confidence and academic success. Research summer camps carefully to be sure one of these camps like add camps, adhd camps, dyslexia camps, ad/hd camps, ld camps, and other camps for kids with learning disabilities are right for your child.
