Ben and Rachel's story

For Ben, the first day of each new school year was an agonizing event. Unlike most of his classmates in his Denver-area school, the first day of school did not mean regrouping with friends, and embarking on new learning adventures. Instead, it meant another nine months of feeling stupid, scared, and struggling to understand the teacher’s lessons. After attending The Learning Camp near Vail, Colorado four summers ago, all of this has changed. Ben, a 13-year-old triplet who combats visual and auditory processing issues, has now found an inner confidence. When he first arrived at The Learning Camp, he was shy and lacked confidence. Through the supportive and nurturing care of seasoned teachers and counselors, he learned to explore outside of his comfort level, and to believe he could work with any of his learning challenges. His shyness was replaced with new-found leadership and confidence which remained with him throughout his next school year.

"We might have lost our daughter if it weren’t for Ann Cathcart and Tom Macht and The Learning Camp", claim the parents of Rachel, a former camper that is now a thriving high school senior. Rachel is one of millions of children that struggle with learning disabilities, which often results in low self-esteem, isolation and despair. Rachel thrived personally and academically for the first time in her life. Although she graduated from The Learning Camp several summers ago, Rachel continues to be in touch with staff at The Learning Camp and hopes to return as a counselor, after college, one day.

All campers at The Learning Camp are urged to tap into their potentials in a conscientious and loving way. This unique program allows each child to achieve at his or her own level. The Learning Camp makes learning for all children a pleasant, fun, and rewarding experience.
