Facilities at The Learning Camp

Nestled securely against Hard Scrabble Mountain, The Learning Camp spreads out over 35 acres of private land known as Ute Springs Ranch, named after the Ute Indians who once lived here. While the camp is conveniently situated minutes from Eagle/Vail airport, we are worlds away in the Colorado Rockies between Eagle and Gypsum - mountain towns within Colorado’s Vail Valley.

Yurts are planted on decks and tucked in the hills behind Abbott Lodge. The great room inside Abbott Lodge.	Summer Camp Living Campers sleep in huge circular canvas structures known as yurts, first used by nomads of central Asia. Each yurt is anchored to a large wooden deck and features bunk beds, windows, a central skylight and a door. There are two adult counselors assigned to each yurt. Abbott Lodge is the cornerstone of camp activity with the kitchen, dining and study deck, bathhouses, laundry and camp directors’ offices. Planted throughout the 35 acres are ten outdoor classrooms where morning classes are held. Summer Camp Activity While campers choose from adventurous daytrip activities like horseback trail rides, caving, rock climbing, river rafting, hiking and camping, there is always plenty of supervised adventure right at camp. Swimming, canoeing, horseback riding, field sports, fishing, archery and arts and crafts are some of the fun kids will find on site. Click here for a complete list of camp activities. Yurts have loads of interior space and are a cozy home away from home for campers.

The mission of The Learning Camp, a special needs camp for children with ADD, ADHD, dyslexia and other learning disabilities, is to help kids with learning disabilities build self-esteem, independence and academic success. Unlike the regular school setting, campers practice fundamentals in small, intimate groups gathered outside under trees or on the shores of Spring Creek. Classes are organized according to age and the academic needs of the camper. Children are not given after-class assignments and so there is no homework or additional testing. Instead, we focus on working very intensely on the basics a few hours each day, and then enjoy all the activities of any given day at summer camp. We incorporate many different types of instructional strategies. There are now many special needs camps, ADD summer camps, ADHD summer camps, LD summer camps, dyslexia summer camps and learning disabled summer camp in the world serving the LD, ADHD and ADD child, but none like our camp!
